How to choose the perfect mobile phone plan?

perfect mobile phone plan

In today’s digital world, it’s almost essential to have a working mobile phone and a plan with features like texts, minutes and data. It allows you to keep in contact with people while on the go, provides entertainment outside of WiFi areas and can even allow you to do work.

However, it’s not always easy to know what mobile plan you need since there are so many options with different features, and you don’t want to overspend on a plan with features that you don’t even need.

In this blog post, we discuss the best ways to choose the perfect mobile phone plan that suits you best.

Think about what you need for your perfect mobile phone plan

The first step is to simply just think about what you need from your mobile plan. From there you can look at each plan and decide whether the features in that plan are what you need or whether they’re unnecessary.

Most standard mobile plans include the general things, like texts, data and minutes, but they can also include other unique features like free Spotify and Netflix.

While these additional features may seem awesome at first glance, they’re not always something that you need and should not be the only deciding factor for choosing a plan. If these features do entice you however, it may be worthwhile to calculate how much they cost individually and then decide whether or not the plan is worth it based on that.

You should consider the question, are you using these apps and will you continue to use them for an extended period of time? If yes, then it’s worth including them in your mobile plan, as you will save some money in the long term.

How many texts do you need per month?

When you compare mobile plans, you may notice each plan has a specified amount of texts per month or unlimited texts.

While unlimited texts are usually the norm nowadays you should still ask yourself how often do you text per month and do you have any alternative ways of doing this.

From this, you can evaluate how many texts you need per month, if any at all. For example, if you only send around 30 texts a month then it probably isn’t necessary to get unlimited texts. If you only communicate through Facebook messenger, then it might be worthwhile to spend more on data and less on texts.

How much data do you need?

Data is an important aspect of mobile plans. It can be used for popular apps such as Facebook and Instagram, it can come handy in times of emergency such as you’re lost on the road somewhere so you might need directions from Google maps. Other times, it can help you complete work while you’re on the go and can keep you connected 24/7.

One of the things to consider is the option of having rollover data; this means that all the data that you don’t use in one month will stay in your account and you can use it in the following month.

You never know when you are, or you use your Wi-Fi more, and you don’t have the chance to use all the data, so why pay for it and not use it?

How many calling minutes do you need each month?

While calling minutes are not necessary to have, they can be extremely important in emergency situations and can just be a lot more convenient when things can be hard to explain through text. Another thing to consider is that

more people are getting rid of their landline phones as time goes on, as those people have calling minutes.

You can also get international calling minutes as well as domestic with some mobile plans, but you should consider whether you actually need international minutes before you let that affect your decision.

Also, are most of your family and friends subscribed with the same provider? If yes, you probably don’t need to get too many calling minutes towards other mobile providers.

However, if you make a lot of calls daily towards various providers, you have to put this into consideration, so it does not get costly.

If possible, you should choose to get rollover minutes. It’s likely that you will not use all of your minutes each month so instead of letting them go to waste, they’ll be used for the consequent months. This is ideal as you never know when you might need more calling minutes.

Other additional benefits

There are also many other benefits that you can get, such as access to mobile apps, free Netflix or Spotify and so on.

You will still pay for these, although not directly; they only come for specific packages that are more expensive, and you don’t want to get them if you don’t use them.

You can negotiate other benefits as long as you make sure that you don’t pay more than what they are worth.

Comparing cheap vs expensive mobile plans

Not all good mobile plans cost an outrageous amount. It’s more about finding the plan that suits you best that matters. Instead of looking at it in terms of costs, you should instead evaluate your options in terms of cost vs benefit.

If you don’t need calling minutes, for example, they can remove the cost of them from the total cost of the mobile plan.

On the other hand, if you opt for a cheaper plan, this might mean you will get less data to use on your favourite apps like Facebook, Instagram and Spotify – not to mention you won’t be able to use Google Maps in emergency situations. Is it really worth the cheaper plan?

Should you choose monthly, prepay, or mobile packs?

With a monthly payment, you pay a specific amount of money per month, and you sign a contract for 1 or 2 years.

You receive a precise number of minutes, texts and data every month as well as other benefits that you agree on, at the beginning of your contract.

A Prepay card means you will pay a certain amount where you will get a number of texts, minutes and data for depending on the deal you choose, for that month. Once that plan is over for the month, you can renew the plan for another month or you can stop and switch to another plan if you’d like.

A mobile pack is similar to the monthly payment, except that you are also buying the mobile that is included in the package! Bear in mind that these plans are usually more expensive, but you will be getting a new phone!
